Colin Irvine restores antique furniture, or any other furniture or wooden items needing repair or care.
From the simplest of repairs to a major rebuild everything is possible. Timbers to match existing can be sourced and repairs and finishes will harmonise with the original piece.

Restoration work can include brass, ivory, mother of pearl and other inlays as well as simple upholstery.

The ash horseshoe backed chair shown here had a severely cracked seat and all its joints were loose. It was completely disassembled, repaired and then re-assembled and finished with polyurethane lacquer.

Restoration work can include simple upholstery. The early 19th century walnut chaise longue shown here has been repaired and varnished, and is now ready for its red velvet upholstery.

This pair of French walnut Louis Philippe berger chairs was in a very poor condition when acquired. They have been completely rebuilt and french polished. Here they are part way through their restoration.

BOX RESTORATION

These three Victorian workboxes were restored for a collector. The walnut and rosewood boxes were in various states of disrepair.

AFTER - Restoration included re-hinging, veneer patching and polishing.

BEFORE - A Victorian rosewood box with inlaid lines and roundels. Inside the lid is pasted an illuminated religious text.

AFTER - Restoration included re-hinging and veneer repairs prior to re-polishing. The illuminated text was preserved.

BEFORE - A Victorian rosewood box with mother-of-pearl inlays.

AFTER - Restoration included re-hinging, veneer repairs and re-polishing.

BEFORE - A mid Victorian rosewood glove box with brass, ivory, mother-of-pearl and burr veneer inlays on the lid and drop flap. The box had had its front flap nailed shut, the hinges had broken and pieces of inlay and edge beading were missing.

AFTER - The restoration included reinstating the hinged drop flap, patching-in the brass and ivory bands and replacing a small piece of shaped brass inlay. In addition a new piece of beading was made, the top re-hinged and the lock striker mounted on a new brass plate. Finally the box was French polished. .
